Despite the publication of the report that condemned the failures of various entities involved in the disaster, such as government agencies, building companies, contractors, fire safety experts, and council staff, the victims’ families and survivors feel that the process has hindered the path to justice rather than expediting it.
Karim Khalloufi, a man who lost his sister Khadija in the fire, criticized the lack of consultation with the affected families before initiating the inquiry. He mentioned that nobody asked him if he wanted the inquiry to take place, highlighting a lack of empathy and consideration for the feelings of the bereaved families. This lack of consultation has contributed to the frustration and disappointment felt by those directly impacted by the tragedy.
Hisam Choucair, who tragically lost six family members in the Grenfell Tower fire, expressed his disappointment with the conduct of witnesses during the inquiry. He mentioned witnessing witnesses “laugh” while giving evidence, which he found deeply disturbing and disrespectful.
