Unfortunate events unfolded on an east London film set, leading to what was supposed to be a controlled explosion spiraling out of control near The O2 arena in Silvertown. The London Fire Brigade reported that the fire, which followed the controlled explosion, quickly spread out of control, causing significant damage to the surroundings.
According to the London Fire Brigade, firefighters worked swiftly to extinguish the fire, eventually bringing it under control. Despite the destruction of a van, a car, and a lorry (truck), there have been no reports of injuries as a result of the incident. The call for assistance was made at 7:51 p.m. UTC, with the fire being brought under control by 9:02 p.m.
Crews from various fire stations, including Poplar, Millwall, Shadwell, and East Greenwich, were dispatched to the scene. The team consisted of 25 firefighters and four fire engines, which played a crucial role in taming the fire at the open-air yard near Dock Road and Trinity Buoy Wharf.
Local police force Newham MPS took to Twitter to reassure the public, stating that the reported explosions near The O2 in Greenwich were part of a pre-planned filming event in the Canning Town E16 area. They emphasized that there was no risk to the public due to the incident.
Videos captured at the scene and shared on social media captured the intensity of the fire, with a boat being dispatched to address the blaze. The footage also showcased multiple explosions as dark smoke billowed into the air. Interestingly, a burning truck bearing the words “BBC News World” was also depicted in the videos, despite BBC News clarifying that they had no involvement in the incident.
As of now, it remains unclear which film set was impacted by the fire. Further details are yet to be revealed, and updates are expected to shed light on the specifics of the incident. The aftermath of the fire serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of controlled explosions and the importance of stringent safety measures in such scenarios.
