Sustainable Metal Cloud, a data center company, has taken advantage of this opportunity by introducing “sustainable AI factories” in Singapore and Australia. These factories, known as HyperCubes, are equipped with servers containing Nvidia processors that are submerged in a synthetic oil called polyalphaolefin for more efficient heat dissipation. This technology reduces energy consumption by up to 50% compared to traditional air cooling methods commonly employed in data centers.

Cost-Effective Cooling Solutions

In addition to energy efficiency, Sustainable Metal Cloud’s immersion cooling technology offers cost-effective solutions for data centers. According to the company, their platform is 28% cheaper to install than other liquid-based cooling solutions. The HyperCubes are versatile and can be integrated into any data center, making them a viable option for facilities looking to optimize their cooling systems.

Sustainable Metal Cloud has already made significant advancements in the industry by partnering with major enterprise partners such as Nvidia and Deloitte. As a preferred cloud partner of Nvidia for compute and AI, the company offers GPU clusters designed by the chip giant. In collaboration with Deloitte, Sustainable Metal Cloud will provide access to Nvidia’s GPU computing infrastructure for building AI applications. The company’s expansion into markets like Thailand and India further solidifies its position as a key player in the data center space.

Green Initiatives and Funding

As countries like Singapore strive to develop sustainable AI infrastructure, the demand for energy-efficient data centers has skyrocketed. Sustainable Metal Cloud, backed by investors like Temasek-backed ST Telemedia Global Data Centres, is at the forefront of this green revolution. The company has received substantial funding for its data center expansion plans, with a focus on building environmentally-friendly facilities to support AI ambitions.

Liquid Cooling Trends

Liquid cooling technology is gaining traction in the data center industry as companies seek to enhance performance and reduce overheating risks. Traditional air-cooling methods are being replaced by liquid-cooling solutions that offer higher power efficiency and better performance outcomes. Vertical, a digital infrastructure provider, offers hybrid air- and liquid-cooling options, while Supermicro’s direct liquid-cooling technology championed by Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang promises energy savings and cost reductions in AI data centers.

Despite the benefits of liquid cooling, challenges remain in deploying this technology in existing data centers. SMC’s co-founder, Tim Rosenfield, highlighted that most data centers are ill-equipped for liquid immersion or direct chip cooling. However, with the increasing demand for AI capabilities and the need for energy-efficient solutions, companies like Sustainable Metal Cloud are paving the way for a more sustainable and innovative future for data centers worldwide.
